Trading an Office for the Colosseum: Meet Alessandra, Guest Relations Coordinator

Hi!  My name is Alessandra and I’m a Guest Relations Coordinator for GetYourGuide.  I work at GetYourGuide because I studied art history, and I was very fascinated by the idea of working alongside beautiful attractions like the Colosseum.

Meeting guests at the meeting point!

Meeting guests at the meeting point!

A typical day as a Guest Relations Coordinator begins with standing outside the Colosseum or the Vatican Museums in my GetYourGuide gear and meeting our guests. This is how my day starts...not too bad I think! My team and I meet our GYG guests at the meeting points, where we then check their vouchers and give them maps and information.  After checking their vouchers, we do a funny introductory speech to prepare them for their tours. Finally, we accompany the guests inside the attraction in a special “skip-the line” time of only 15-20 minutes, which is very impressive considering that here in Rome, especially at the Vatican Museums, you can usually expect to wait in line for up to 3 hours!

Thanks to our rotation system, I feel like I am able to do different work everyday.

In our Guest Relations Team we have different roles that rotate every day.  These roles are Greeter, Lead, and Duty Rotà. The Greeter checks in the guests and manages late arrivals, the Lead brings the guests inside the attraction, and the Duty Rotà is the supervisor of the day who makes decisions and comes back to the office to report our working day.

However, this is just a technical description of what my job is and the different roles on the team. For me, being a Guest Relations Coordinator really means getting the opportunity to meet different people from all over the world, on a daily basis! How cool is that?!

We talk with guests, we laugh with them, and, when it rains, we can all stay under the same umbrellas! We help the guests with their tours, but we also learn a lot from them.
Connecting with Guests!

Connecting with Guests!

I remember one day in particular I was leading guests inside the Vatican Museums and I wasn’t having the best day.  Then after entering the museum a couple of tourists from Australia came to tell me I had great energy and that I gave them important and consistent help which improved their museum experience. I felt so much better because I realized that this job is all about connecting with different people, and these people are not only the amazing colleagues I have, but also the people I get to meet everyday from different parts of the world! This is the best part of being a Guest Relation Coordinator: we create relationships!

In August I celebrated my one year anniversary with GYG, and I am still so happy to be working here! Why? Because I like what I do!
