Meet The Team - Content.
As mentioned in our previous Meet The Team blog, we are meeting with various teams within GetYourGuide to gain insight into life in each team. Last week, we spoke to our Sales team and Today, we are chatting with our Content Team; The Content Team bring amazing experiences to our customers through text and images, wherever they are. They craft and perfect the voice of GetYourGuide, ensuring consistency and high quality.
Can you give us a brief summary of what your team works on?
We, the content team, are working towards one goal: give our customers the best journey on our website, in 14 languages. Our team is responsible for everything you read and the pictures you see on the GetYourGuide website - which, as you can imagine, is quite a lot! We have linguists that check the new content and make sure it complies with our style, editors who adjust it to reflect the GetYourGuide tone of voice, and then a big team of translators who are in charge of adapting that content into other languages. And of course the visual team, who take, select, and edit pictures to make sure our most popular tours have the best images for our customers. We cannot do all these tasks just by ourselves, so we have a pool of excellent freelancers with whom we communicate daily. Apart from that, we have specific collaborative projects with other departments: Marketing, Product, Sales, Mobile… We are a very busy team!
What advice would you have for someone who would like to work with the content team?
We always need people who are detail-oriented but also ready to take on new challenges and who can prioritize. Since we work in such a fast-paced environment, you need to know how to shift focus and be ready to face new tasks every day. This can be challenging, but it really pays off when you see that your work is making a positive impact.
What does an average day in your team look like?
This is a difficult question, since it can change so much during the week! As I mentioned before, we all have our daily tasks: approving tours and activities, translating them, editing pictures… But then an urgent request might come in and we need to stop our other tasks to proofread a sales contract, launch a new A/B test, or book a photo shoot for our new best-selling product. So I think an average day in content is pretty eclectic.
What, if any, are the principles that your team lives by?
I would say that our main issue is combining speed with quality: we want to do it fast but always maintaining high standards. That’s why our team leads and our coordinators collaborate a lot with other departments to improve our processes and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
What is your favourite thing about working with GetYourGuide Content Team?
I think the best thing about the content team is the people. We are a very international group, so it’s great to share different experiences, points of view… and food! Whenever someone goes back home or on a trip, we bring back some local treats. We also organize monthly lunches, give presents when it’s someone’s birthday, and have a Secret Santa before Christmas. I think these small things help a lot in creating a great work environment.
