10 Reasons to Join Our Sales Team

GetYourGuide
Careers Team

Today we hear from our Sales team on why they love working in Sales and their reasons to join the team!

Our experience in the Sales Team at GetYourGuide has been rewarding, challenging, and fun. Often candidates, friends, and colleagues from other departments ask the team what’s the best part of being on the Sales Team. Below are our answers:

The Destination Manager Role:

1. Our impact on destination growth

The online tours and activities space has never been more exciting than today. There are more stakeholders than ever before and this presents a great opportunity for the Sales Team to contribute to turning trips into amazing experiences. As a Destination Manager, youl directly impact  destination growth while improving the customer experience.

2. Ownership from day one

You’re given the ownership and tools to drive growth and results quickly. Our Sales Team is responsible for owning the whole sales cycle, including lead generation, negotiation, and closing deals with suppliers.

3. Growing the right inventory with the best experiences

Being “customer obsessed” is one of our principles. It’s rewarding to onboard the experiences that the customers want. We constantly monitor their performance to ensure a seamless experience. Buying a ticket from our platform is okay, but having a great experience and lasting memory is what we strive for. We have the opportunity to make the right suppliers grow and shine whether it’s a small trekking company in Cape Town or a large sailing company in Santorini. We become meaningful to our tour suppliers while providing the best for our customers.

4. Product testing and becoming destination experts

Let’s be honest, traveling and living in the customer's’ shoes is an awesome part of the job! It’s also a chance for us to spot the pain points and improve our customers’ experiences. Walking in our customers’ shoes enables us to deliver constructive feedback to our suppliers. We also travel to build excellent supplier relationships and better understand our key destinations. The team is able to learn about the culture, land, local tourism as well as what makes a destination work and flourish.

Career progression:

5. Rapid career growth

You can progress your career quickly in the Sales Team. This is all possible with the right attitude, seizing the opportunities, and being proactive. It’s a fast-growing company with many roles developing. chance to grow with the company is very possible.

6. Networking

There are only six degrees separating you from anyone in the world. The travel industry is no different. Although it’s large, there is a huge opportunity to extend networks, source leads, connect like-minded people, and learn from industry colleagues at various networking events and trade shows.

7. Being entrepreneurial

The definition of entrepreneurial is ‘people who create business’. Some sales challenges are not easily overcome and require creativity, a sense of ownership, and a strong drive to deliver results. In the Sales Team, it’s the Destination Managers who feel responsible for delivering the best experiences to our customers, often letting a ‘no’ be an enabler rather than a hindrance to do business.

Culture and Environment:

8. Being a part of the GetYourGuide culture

Where else are you going to find awesome Summer Summits, winter parties, and the chance to visit the company HQ in Berlin for onboarding? Not to mention a GetYourGuide Academy to upskill? We have a “work hard, play hard” team mentality. Apart from all the hard work with suppliers, we really embrace a holistic work environment i.e. breakfast and fruit at work, yoga, language classes, global Friday updates with pizza and beer, and many other team activities!

9. The team environment

Working from 13 local offices and our Berlin hub, everyone in the Sales team has a unique team with common goals to call their own. We constantly share best business practices and learnings. The Destination Managers are dedicated to supporting each other’s personal and professional growth. It is also a priority for teams to set aside time to celebrate success, align, and have facetime.

10. Our company core values

GetYourGuide’s strong culture is naturally lived by the Sales Team. Like an organism you find living examples of this everyday with people practicing learning, commitment, passion, clarity, and positivity. This might be learning a new skill set that’ll help you for your sales pitch, challenging a team member to be more clear, or committing to a key account until you see results.

There are many more reasons to join the Sales team, and we found it difficult to settle on just ten! For now though I hope this provides a better insight into the Sales team’s work style and culture. If this team sounds like the right fit for you, then be sure to look at our open positions around the world!
