How GetYourGuide’s Core Values Help Nurture a Great Company Culture

From the outset, great company culture has been a constant at GetYourGuide. Recent events prompted us to reevaluate our core values and ask ourselves who we are, who we want to be, and what qualities we appreciate most.

Over the past two years, the travel industry has been through massive turbulence. Overnight, the Covid-19 pandemic caused planes to be grounded and borders to be closed. After supporting customers in canceling their experiences, GetYourGuide saw bookings plummet to almost zero.

The familiar excitement that travel inspires was replaced by what felt like never ending uncertainty. During that time, one thing remained steadfast at GetYourGuide, and that is the culture we have created.

Throughout the pandemic, we innovated, collaborated, and iterated; we remained open-minded and determined. The evolution we went through during this phase made us aware that it was time to review our employee values and align them to truly reflect who we are today.

Values Based on Company Culture

These values are rooted in a distinct culture that underpins everything we do at GetYourGuide. This culture serves as a foundation for our mission of creating unforgettable experiences for our customers. It’s manifested in how we communicate with each other, our organizational structure, our day-to-day, and our future goals.

Central to our culture are five core values: driving everything we do, they help us build and strengthen the company we love being a part of. Here are our Core Values and what they mean to us.

Discovery means being driven by curiosity, being open-minded, and taking risks. It’s about not knowing what’s around the corner and embarking on the journey anyway.

It is seen when we set ambitious goals and when we deliberately try something we have not done before. We are flexible and open to ideas, and our ability to pivot when things change is one of our core strengths.

Belief: We own what we do and strive to achieve our best.

Principles: Love what you do. Aim for the highest standards.

Passion is all about showing up with energy and enthusiasm to excel at what we do, and at how we do it. It's taking ownership of our actions, our impact, and our results. It's acting with urgency and being driven to constantly improve.

It means taking pride in achieving our very best. We approach our work with genuine care and collaborate with each other to achieve even better results. We maintain a high bar for our own work, and that of others, and surround ourselves with the best colleagues who inspire us and help to continuously raise the standard.

Belief: Every successful journey starts with trust in your fellow explorers.

Principles: Be radically open and believe in one another. Put the team first.

Trust means giving trust first, by doing our part to create an environment where we assume good intent and where we're inclusive, open-minded, and empower each other's and our team's success.

We believe in communicating clearly and transparently. We use data to support decisions and deliver on our promises, thereby walking the talk.

Personal Growth

Belief: Growth comes from seeking out opportunities and overcoming challenges.

Principles: Step outside your comfort zone. Succeed and learn, fail and grow.

Personal Growth is found through grit, testing our abilities and limitations, and stepping outside our comfort zones. We focus on what creates impact and feel safe to fail, but grow from it when it happens.

It's about pushing past perceived growth boundaries, regularly committing ourselves to something new or challenging, and prioritizing and steering our own development.

Belief: Unlocking unforgettable experiences brings us joy.

Principles: Love to make a difference. Celebrate our impact on customers.

We feel joy when we make a difference for our customers. We constantly think about what we could do next to create value, and we celebrate the progress we make as a team.

We are deliberate about creating unforgettable experiences for colleagues and customers. We believe in actively seeking out fresh perspectives to challenge our thinking and deliver better results.

Bringing these values to our interactions both with each other as well as customers doesn’t just help us be our best, it also helps us grow and continuously raise the bar for the travel tech industry. More broadly, by keeping these core values at the front of our minds, each and every one of us contributes to GetYourGuide’s longstanding culture.
